Michael Trigoboff is the owner, President, and Sole Perpetrator of:

MLT Software, Inc.

A detailed resume of my experience is available either as plain text, or in PDF format.

I have been an independent contract programmer since 1988. I’m expert in Java, C++, and C, as well as a number of other languages. I have been programming in Java since 1995. I also write software for the Palm platform.

I am currently teaching Java programming and other topics at Portland Community College. See my personal web site at PCC for details.

My career as a professional programmer began in 1970 with a job as a Programmer Trainee at Macy’s in New York City. This was a step up from my previous job, and led directly to my debut as a roller skating clown
in that year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

One project I worked on was eBook software for Intertrust, a digital rights management company.

Before that I wrote iDream Software’s Jio. Jio is a Java applet/application which can display two-dimensional virtual environments and collect information on various user actions in those environments. Eddie Bauer used Jio for its web site’s Virtual Dressing Room.

I did the programming for a greeting card site for Stolichnaya Vodka. This was done as a set of CGI scripts written in Perl.

Inspired by my first meeting with a Geochron Clock, I wrote Sun Clock. Sun Clock is a Java applet that shows you where it’s day and night on a map of the world. Sun Clock updates its display in real time. Leave it running long enough and you’ll see the night shadow move across the map. A small version appears at the top of this page, if your browser is Java-capable. The large version has a map that shows the Earth as viewed from space.

In addition to the Java applet format, Sun Clock is available from MLT Software as a Palm or Macintosh or Windows application. If you want one, please follow these ordering instructions.

If you’re interested in boating, have a look at my docking simulator, a Java applet that lets you try docking a boat without breaking expensive things. I learned to dock my boat, Sea Horse, before I wrote this simulator. I’m happy that I didn’t break anything in the process.

I also wrote DecisionMaker, software which allows its user to edit, analyze, and graphically display complex decisions that include an element of uncertainty. This application is based on decision trees, and is available from MLT Software for both the Macintosh and Windows platforms.

My background includes working as a software engineer for Saba Technologies (an OCR startup which was located in Beaverton, Oregon), Metaphor Computer Systems (another startup, in Silicon Valley, which was eventually absorbed by IBM), Xerox Palo Alto (where I worked on the Xerox Star and picked up the equivalent of a first class graduate level education in the theory, design, and implementation of graphical user interfaces), and a U. S. Navy research lab (where I helped create prototype training software for operators of shipboard nuclear propulsion plants).

I have a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence/Expert Systems. My thesis work was an expert system for medical diagnosis.
